Weekly Cooking (and related issues) Thread

Posted on 07/08/2015 4:38:46 PM PDT by Jamestown1630

Busy week here, so I'm just posting a couple of links to Fancy Desserts. Please post your own favorite!

Back in the 90s, I found this 'Chocolate Truffle Loaf with Raspberry Sauce' in a magazine ad. There are many versions of it now, but this one is the exact recipe I've used for years; it's not difficult, and makes an elegant, do-ahead dessert for a dinner party:

http://www.kraftcanada.com/recipes/bakers-chocolate-truffle-loaf-84706

I once made an alligator cake for a kid's birthday party. It was made by using several pans of different shapes, and cutting the cake up to create the critter - I remember it had candy corn for teeth, and was so long that I had difficulty finding a sturdy piece of cardboard to cover with foil and carry it on.

But if I were doing a 'kid cake' today, I'd try this cute little cyclops 'Minion' cake:

I love chocolate. We add it to our coffee now (unsweetened cacao).

Thanks very much, Ken. I accidentally posted when I meant to preview, and before putting in the code, or even proofing.

As I said, busy week.

Has anyone else been getting black square pop-ups which cover most of the webpage, that say ‘this plug-in is vulnerable and should be updated’ &c?

We’ve been getting them for several days. I found a ‘browser modifier’ on one computer while running a scan, and got rid of it. But this other ‘plug-in’ message keeps showing up on half the websites that I access.

(I just saw it on one of the links Ken posted.)

We’ve run all of our security, and nothing is showing up; but it keeps happening (???)

Hmmm...I don’t really make fancy desserts. Only pies, cakes and ice creams. Never made Crème Brulee or Floating Island or Pavlova.

Same here...nothing fancy....just tried and true cakes, pies and ice creams...like you :)

We were just planning what flavor ice cream we’re going to make for next 4th of July. I like Johnny’s homemade ice cream recipe...heavy cream, lots of eggs....yummmmmmish.

IMHO.. pies, cakes and ice cream are “fancy” desserts if you make them from scratch. I brought a few homemade pies to a function and you think I could have gotten my own cooking show. “You MADE the crust?” “The fruit is real and not from a CAN?”

Lol...I agree! My kids were raised on nothing but scratch cakes and pies. The cake/bars my sis and I made for the 4th, were a BIG hit. Reminded me of brickle brownies.
